This project was developed while taking the class, Photography on the Open Road. This class was an experiential learning trip where we traveled from Oregon down to San Francisco and back up, taking highway 1. We photographed people, places and items we saw while examining photography and road trip culture literature. For the open-ended final project, I created Villa Nereid, an upscale coastal hotel brand inspired by this road trip filled with quirky, small, and unforgettable seaside stays. Using my own photography from the trip, I developed a brand identity that playfully contrasts those charmingly odd places we stayed. The concept of Villa Nereid was to be the complete opposite, luxurious, overly polished, and indulgent, but with a tongue-in-cheek twist that subtly pokes fun at our actual experiences (which we genuinely loved). At the core of the project, I designed a fully branded welcome basket featuring everything a luxury guest could imagine: a keycard, beverages, toiletries, luggage tags, and an array of perfectly curated complimentary items, all showcasing the over-the-top hospitality of this fictional high-end hotel.
